The works of the General Assembly of the Association of Faculties of Economics in Romania (AFER) took place on July 8, 2016, in Sinaia. A new management board has been elected on this special occasion. Professor Nicolae Istudor, Rector of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), has been elected as President of AFER for the next mandate. The new management board of AFER is also composed of Professor Marilen Gabriel Pîrtea, Rector of the West University of Timișoara – First Vice President, Professor Gheorghe Hurduzeu, Professor Dinu Airinei, Professor Ovidiu Folcuț, Professor Petru Ștefea, Professor Cristian Marius Litan – Vice Presidents, Associate Professor Ionela Costică – Secretary General și Drd. Radu Petrariu – Executive Director.

AFER has been established with the initiative of the Faculties of Economics of Universities members of the Universitaria Consortium that constitute its core. AFER is a professional and scientific association whose objective is the qualitative optimization of the teaching and research process in higher economic education institutions in Romania.

The Association of Faculties of Economics in Romania (AFER) is widely recognized as a powerful forum for discussion of specific problems, identifying best practices in academic education and research dedicated to promoting national and international reference standards for higher economic education in Romania. AFER is proving a growing culture of assessment and measurement in education, research and innovation, putting a new emphasis on the economic contribution of higher education to economic and social life and the need to work multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and trans disciplinary. AFER has shown consistently strong focus on providing graduates with updated knowledge and practical skills required in the modern workplace, and a framework for their continued development, constantly stimulating the critical and creative thinking, the ability to find, to access, to evaluate and to use information in order to solve complex problems faced by entrepreneurs aware of the implications of the actions initiated and of the complex decisions in a competitive business environment specific to the relevant markets at the confluence of globalization and integration.

     It is worth mentioning that the President of AFER, Professor Nicolae Istudor, Rector of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), and one of the Editors of the Volume “Pages from the Romanian Economic Higher Education History, 1843-2013”, is Honorary Member of the Romanian Distribution Committee.
