The Romanian Competition Council launched, on November 6, 2023, the Report on Competition in Key Sectors. The event was hosted at the National Military Circle, the splendid Marble Hall.

Romanian Competition Council’s Conference addressed significant topics regarding the importance of ensuring a functional and stable competitive environment, as well as aspects related to bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Moldova. As it is essential for citizens to benefit from the best products and services at a fair value for money, Romanian Competition Council continued to focus on ensuring a functioning market economy and real competition between economic operators, even more so in the context of the current challenging period, valorizing the loyal collaboration between both the state authorities, and with the European institutions.

As usual, the new report of the Romanian Competition Council reconfirmed that success is coming only from really hard work on the path to both consumer welfare (promoted by well-functioning, competitive markets), choice (effective competition being facilitated by effective consumer choices) and fairness, one hand, and economic efficiency, efficacity (consumers being served by ensuring that markets remain competitive by encouraging new market entrants and creating incentives for innovation), freedom and plurality, on the other hand. As we mentioned some years ago, as a special kind of „path dependence” process, there is no doubt that the Romanian Competition Authority can and must continue to provide the right framework for continuing on the right path, and on building on delivering for consumers. Its valuable activity is confirming the importance of path-dependent features of the competition policy ranging from superior standards and procedures applied by the European competition authorities to the patterns of facilitating effective international cooperation to the benefit of good work of the mentioned authorities in applying rules in the same way across the EU in order to make sure businesses and companies compete fairly with each other, and create a wider choice for consumers and help reduce prices and improve quality.
